Brilliant French rockers, Phoenix, are coming back to town September 26th! This time around they’re playing to a larger crowd at PNE Forum (they played the Orpheum last time in January).

They played an awesome show last time, with the crowd rushing the stage during the last song. Sadly I was all the way up in the balcony so I couldn’t join in… Still though, it was one of my favorite albums of last year, and I’m sure they’ll put on a amazing show once again. Too bad I’ve decided to go to The Flaming Lips the same night…
Curse you promoters for scheduling conflicts! (I’ve thought about trying to make it to both, but they’re all the way across town and they’re both early shows :S Shitty deal)

Anyways, tickets go on sale Friday, June 11th. Presales happen Wednesday and Thursday. Will update with more info later.

My friends Marta and Shannon will be participating in this year’s Ride to Conquer Cancer where they, along with many others, will cycle from Vancouver to Seattle in order to raise money for cancer research. They still need some support, so this upcoming Wednesday, June 2nd at 8 pm, they’re holding a benefit concert at The Bourbon featuring local artists Dan Hudson (of Waiting for Sunday) and Nadia Von Hahn.

Tickets are $10 and available at the door. It’s for a good cause, guys!

See the Facebook Event page for more info.

A second show’s been added for The National, happening Thursday September 9th. I didn’t realize that the first show even sold out, but considering how awesome The National’s new album, High Violet, is – I’m not entirely surprised. Now you have no excuse not to go!

Presales are happening right now.

The always entertaining Flaming Lips are coming back to the Malkin Bowl on September 26th!

Despite the freezing-cold, their last show was absolutely brilliant. I knew I was in for a treat when frontman Wayne Coyne leapt off the stage in a giant human-sized hamster ball, rolling atop the crowd at the beginning of the show. Other spectacles of the night included dancing aliens, Santa Clauses, sound guys in superhero costumes, lots of confetti and giant balloons floating carelessly amongst the crowd. Oh, and the video camera attached to Wayne’s microphone was pretty trippy too. (At Sasquatch the following year they invited a bunch of girls on to the stage to take their tops off. I can’t believe I missed that…)

Anyways, I’m sure the show this year will be just as good. “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots” is bar-none one of my favourite albums of all time.

Tickets go on sale Friday (May 28th), with a presale happening this Thursday. Will update with more info later, so stay tuned.

New York indie rockers, Vampire Weekend, are playing the Malkin Bowl August 28th with Beach House and Dum Dum Girls.  Should be good times (sadly I’ll be out of town and missing it). My guess is that this show will sell out, so get your tickets early!

Broken Social Scene

Guess what, kids? The Canadian super-collective, Broken Social Scene is coming to town October 13th to the Commodore Ballroom to support their new album “Forgiveness Rock Record”! (For all you kids in Victoria, they play Legends the night before)

Over the years, BSS included members of Stars, Metric, The Sea & Cake, Jason Collett and Leslie Feist. According to Wikipedia, the touring lineup this year will feature the core seven members: Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, Justin Peroff, Andrew Whiteman, Charles Spearin, Sam Goldberg, and Lisa Lobsinger.

No word yet on when tickets go on sale, but I can imagine soon (maybe this Friday?).
I will update when they do, and if/when there’s a presale.

Tickets went on sale yesterday! Totally dropped the ball on this one… It slipped right past me.

Seems like there are plenty left.

Did you, or someone you love, attempt to get into the free Deadmau5 show back during the Olympics, but found yourself dancing outside LiveCity instead ? (I certainly didn’t, but mostly because I was in another country).
Well, if you missed it last time, he’s coming back July 10th to the Pacific Coliseum!

Albeit… this time it’s not free, and actually quite expensive for what it is ($59-$109 depending on which section you’re in).
