Who really doesn’t like dessert? And two ladies back in 1988 Alanna Pollack and Nadine Jumelle banked on that

True Confections is a busy cozy cafe style dessert place that provides a variety of cake desserts, and yes they have 3 types of milk to choose to drink, if you are like me who likes to have milk with there dessert :-) , but they also provide the usual assortment of teas and alcoholic beverages in case you need to warm up or need a little liquid courage to ask out the cutie from the next table ;-p.

In summary True Confections is a great place for a small group of people together and chat over some great dessert.

So had the cojones to ask out that someone that caught your eye, they agreed and now you got yourself a date! Congratulations! Only problem…you need a good date idea that’s a little more exciting the your coffee date or dinner and a movie. This will show them you are are unique and thoughtful or at least you can use the Internet :-p.

Well here are my top 10 places to take someone on a date in Vancouver during the Winter season. In no particular order….just what magically pops into my head is the order they go in.

1) Vancouver Art Gallery

Hey it’s always good to show a little culture right?. There are many nice paintings, photos, displays to look at and discuss wither you let it or not, what the artist was trying to capture, the list goes on! Keep in mind it is 3 floors and each floor has a different theme or angle, you could spend the whole day there! I recommend going at 1pm, this leaves you with 4 hours to spend in the gallery before closing. Entrance is roughly $20 per person.

2) Richmond TBC Indoor Go Karting

It’s not a bad thing to have a little competitive spirit on the race track:-p. This place has a lounge area you can chill in while you wait for your race to start. Like bowling you can submit any racing name you want so be a little creative here. The rest is self explanatory. It’s an indoor go kart track. A little love tap to spin out your date’s kart! It’s all in good fun right?

3) Snowboarding / Skiing at Cypress Mountain or Grouse Mountain

The local mountains are not too far away. You got plenty of time to enjoy the view on the chair lift and you can make wagers as to who is going to bail when getting of the lift.

4) Maxine’s Hideaway ~ Burlesque Show

Good food, beautiful women dancing what else do you want?

5) Vancouver Aquarium

The aquarium has many exhibits and houses many different exotic aquatic life from around the world. Be sure to check the show times for all the animal shows as well as the animal encounters where you can feed and pet the animals. Highlights are the Dolphin and Beluga shows…oh yeah and the otters, everyone loves otters!

6) Science World

It’s okay to geek it out! There’s so many great games and interactive activities at science world; it’s awesome, you can train to be a sniper, see what you will look like when you are old, battle it out “relaxation table”, and other lots of fun science related stuff to do…who knows you might learn something too :-O!

7) H.R. Macmillan Space Centre

With the re-introduction of Star Trek, it’s coooool to be into space. Unfortunately I don’t have much to comment about this place as I personally have not been there….YET. I’ll update you when I do. Beam me up SCOTTIE!

8 ) Golf Driving Range

We live in a great city where you can golf pretty much any time around, heck you can even golf and snowboard in the same day. Go to a driving range that is sheltered and has heat lamps, and then show them how to SMACK them balls!

9) Ice Skating at the Richmond Oval

You’re Canadian right? You should know how to skate! The complex is amazing and when you are tired you can people watch!

10) Vancouver Giants Game

We love our Canucks, we all love’em so much that at times it’s hard to land tickets for a specific night. Enter the Vancouver Giants they are a great team to watch and they love to fight :-)

11) BONUS# 1: Bowling

Wager a kiss for achieving the elusive TURKEY! For you bowling noobs, a TURKEY is when you get 3 strikes in a row! Do I have to explain what a strike is????

12) BONUS # 2: Billiards

Game plan, say you suck at pool, lose of couple games, then make a wager for something you want….and then SHARK’em!

These are perfect first date ideas for things to do in Vancouver as all of them allow for some great conversation, they are not like a movie or a show where you have to “ferme la bush” (yes I’m cultured ;-p) the whole time.

As Mary Jane use to always say to Peter Parker, “You get’em Tiger!”. And remember the city is your playground!
